Why Start With a Sample Pack?
Buying coffee online has one obvious problem: you can't smell it or taste it before you commit. Walk into a specialty coffee shop, and you can ask the barista what's good, smell the open bags, and taste a shot before you buy a pound. Online, you're working from tasting notes and descriptions, which helps, but only goes so far.
Sample packs solve that. Instead of guessing which single origin or which roast level is right for you and committing to a full bag, you try several at once, find the one that fits your palate and your brewing method, and then order full bags of the ones you love. It's the lowest-risk, highest-information way to shop for coffee online.
We built our sample pack lineup specifically for this to give you a real cross-section of what Fork in the Road Coffee does across roast levels, origins, and categories, in quantities small enough to brew fresh and compare side by side.
How to Use a Sample Pack
Getting the most out of a sample pack means brewing each coffee under the same conditions, so you're comparing apples to apples:
- Use the same brewing method for each. Drip, pour-over, or French press, pick one and stick to it across all the samples. Switching methods mid-comparison introduces too many variables.
- Use the same grind size and ratio. One consistent variable removed is one more data point you can trust.
- Brew them in order from lightest to darkest roast. Light roasts are more delicate and easier to evaluate fresh. Dark roasts are bolder and can overwhelm your palate if you start there.
- Take notes. Even a few words, "chocolatey," "too bright," "smooth," "too earthy," help you identify patterns in what you like and don't like.
- Brew each sample within a few days of opening. Sample quantities are small, which means they lose freshness faster than a sealed full bag. Brew promptly for the best read on each coffee.
What's in Our Sample Packs
Our sample packs are organized around the most common shopping questions we hear:
- Roast level samplers: Not sure if you're a light, medium, or dark roast person? Our roast level sample packs walk you across the spectrum so you can land on your preference with confidence rather than guesswork.
- Single-origin samplers: Curious about the difference between an Ethiopian, a Honduran, and a Colombian? Our single origin sample packs let you taste the terroir differences side by side — the same roast level, different farms, completely different cups.
- Blend samplers: Want to find your everyday go-to from our blends collection? Try several at once and identify which flavor profile fits your morning best.
- Flavored samplers: Our flavored coffee sample packs cover the core lineup, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, and seasonal favorites, so you can find your flavor without committing to a full bag of each.
- Decaf samplers: Skeptical about specialty decaf? Our decaf sample packs are the lowest-risk way to find out what Swiss Water Process decaf actually tastes like when the base coffee is specialty grade.
Sample Packs as Gifts
A sample pack is the best coffee gift for someone whose taste you don't know. A single full bag of coffee is a guess, it might be exactly right or completely wrong for their brewing setup and palate. A sample pack gives them the experience of exploring, finding their favorite, and having a specific recommendation to come back to. It's a gift with a natural follow-up built in.
Our sample packs ship in the same packaging as our full-size bags, roasted to order, sealed fresh, with the roast date printed on every bag. They arrive looking and smelling like the thoughtful gift they are.
For larger gift orders or corporate gifting, reach out directly, we can build custom sample assortments for offices, events, or bulk gifting that aren't listed in the shop.

- Loved a flavored roast? Our flavored coffee collection has the complete seasonal and year-round lineup.

Roasted to Order — Every Sample
Every sample in our packs is roasted after you place your order and shipped the next business day. That matters more for samples than full bags, small quantities lose freshness faster, so starting from the freshest possible roast gives you the most accurate read on each coffee. Store opened samples in an airtight container away from light and heat, and brew within two weeks of opening for the best results.
